GENDER: Female both physically and mentally.
APPEARANCE: This!
PERSONALITY & HOUSE REQUESTS:
Belarus is an intimidating and cold person, despite her appearance: and she's beautiful and horrid at the same time. She's said to have 'a bit of a harsh atmosphere', and with her frigid stares and the chill of the knife in her hand, it's easy for her coldness to weigh down on your shoulders. At first, she may not come off as too mentally unstable-- she's expressionless for the most part and it's rather difficult to draw out much of a reaction from her. Although she seems to be something of a blank slate, she does tend to look more sour and disapproving than anything else. Belarus is shown to carry around a knife at times, most notably in the Meeting Of The World strip where she's holding it to a traumatized Latvia's back as Russia scares him, but it wouldn't be surprising if she were always armed, due to her tumultous history and difficult upbringing.
According to a footnote at the end of Russia's Big And Little Sisters in Hetalia volume 2, Belarus briefly became a sort of surrogate younger sister to America after the fall of the Soviet Union, which could mean that she still has some feelings towards him for aiding her in her time of need. The official Hetalia "desktop buddy" Belarus provides that she loves the occult and that her favorite reading material was the Soviet newspaper Pravda. Latvia also mentions that Belarus has been into rock music as of late, perhaps to compliment her rough persona.
Anyone apart from her siblings, she tends to treat cruelly-- especially if they're caring to her. It's not that she intends to reject the offered kindness; rather, it seems as though a vicious response is merely her default reaction to everything and it might also be a way to protect herself. She's strong, both in persistence and in mannerism. Her lovely feminine features and soft appeal are greatly contrasted by her sharp words, furrowed brow and blunt honesty. As Belarus is sometimes seen as being completely and utterly insane and prone to sudden and unexplained violent outbursts, this is not actually the case. Though she is quite the stubborn one and quick to anger if the wrong words are said (insulting someone she cares about, for instance), she does not needlessly stab whoever crosses her path with a knife. Not to say that she won’t if you provoke her enough, but unlike some people think she doesn't just attack without good (... relatively) reason.
Still, this anger and mistrust seems to be born mostly, though not entirely, of past pains; the only ones she seems to trust are her siblings. Belarus is unable to comprehend that people aren't entirely malleable. The fact that her brother doesn't love her as she loves him, by virtue of her love alone, troubles her greatly. Her sister Ukraine is probably a source of comfort, even if Belarus is hesitant to ask for it... although, Ukraine is yet another person that Belarus is deeply jealous of regarding her brother. They were both very close, even in childhood, but Belarus was always prone to jealousy whenever Russia entered the picture.
So continues the pattern of emotional (and physical) abuse toward the people who love her. And, well. To everyone else, too. Her animosity towards the Baltics seems to be endless. However, she does have a bit of a soft spot for America (it's about the size of the one she holds for her sister Ukraine), thanks to his temporary adoption of her as a sibling following the fall of the USSR.
Belarus also isn't really that experienced in romantic relationships... at all; this is apparent in the way that she constantly pesters her brother to marry her, so things involving romance can be a tad awkward for her since she doesn't have much experience in that area. Of course, her almost scarred mentality and very bit more unapproachable always kept people away from her, making her just a tad bit more unaprouchable. Although it could also be some way to protect herself from others, but she doesn't have a problem with it -apprently-.
At one point, when she was still a part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, she had a large amount of respect for Lithuania (Toris), although she now doesn't see the current Lithuania, the used to be house maid of Russia who allows himself to be walked all over at times, and the strong but gentle looking nation who used to rule most of Eastern Europe as the same person. In her eyes, she sees them as two different people. The respect that she had for Lithuania faded away along with the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in her eyes, so did the man, or nation rather, that he used to be. Of course, she will forever be very annoyed by him for taking her away from her brother.
Depending on the language Belarus is speaking, her personality will vary slightly. For example, when she speaks English (obviously her defaultly spoken language) she seems to have a bored or annoyed exterior, when she speaks Russian she tends to seem a bit more easily angered and tends to snap more quickly, when she speaks Belarus she shows her emotions and expresses how she is feeling more easily, she will usually only speak complete sentences other than greetings and simple phrases with those she is close to or feels more safe around.
Belarus knew Lithuanian and Poland from her time in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and as the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, but is extremely rare to hear her speak either of these languages unless something horribly ticked her. She does not like speaking of her time with them, it's a good way to make her snap at you. It brings out a lot of her emotions that she would rather not be feeling and memories that she finds to be best forgotten. It's probably for the best not to speak of it unless she is the one who brings it up.
All in all, she could easily fit into Slytherin while in the same time suiting Ravenclaw, but that would only work with intelligence. Although her rather cut-throat, stop at nothing to get what she wants would easily make her the sort for Slytherin. As shown by her persistence to get her brother to marry her, breaking down the knob of a door to get to him. She's pretty ambitious, a very strong leader, if not completely intemidating. Her cold, unreadable expression and blank mannerisms going hand in hand with her complete roughness in everything she does, not to mention her underhanded touch of almost child-like cruelty can have her suited for Slytherin.
COMMUTER DETAILS: Untapped.
POSITION: Student.
CURRICULUM: N/A
ABILITIES & POWERS:
She's gone through enough to be unusually calm in very trying situations, she is far worse at dealing with the unexpected when it comes in the form of interactions with other people; she could easily lose her temper, due to her limited patience for other people. Although she most likely wouldn't hurt those close to her, she could easily break the bones of those who hurt them. Of course, having been a war-ravaged country, she's well adapted to fighting, being able to fight with both daggers and using her own body. She is more suited to close range combat. Although she is a fairly good shot, she prefers using her knives to protect herself, for she is more used to them and they've served her well. Needless to say, she always carries knives and daggers with her and is pretty much on guard all of the time.
As for magical abilities, she would probably do well with healing spells
Naturally, she would be much better with the dark arts, due to her often malicious nature: she would no doubt have the will to perform any of the Forbidden Curse. She would also be quick to respond to things around her, which might lead to her attacking first before fully assessing the situation. Although she might sometimes use her wand to jab or hit people with... or generally use it as an extension of her arm for purposes other than casting spells.
WAND:
Core would be made out of Dragon heartstring, as for the wood it would be Pine. She is perfectly being the sort that likes to keep to herself and mostly depending on herself. 8" for the length, it would be much easier for her since she's so used to daggers and knives after all. The rather stiff wood is already hard to break things, combined with her rather stern and hard to shake personality it's rather hard to break unless she, herself, was under that much pressure. That and also it would be rather heavy although she would beg to differ since it is hers after all. Pretty rigid as well, she could easily smash people with it too... And break bones.
The strength is rather balanced at most times, but it could easily back-fire if she was too angered by something. Although being rather used to being in the battle-field, albeit rarely frightened inwardly by all the memories which could easily come up, it would take a lot for her to lose balance. Although when it comes to things that need for her to change an object to another it would be rather hard for her, since it would be hard for her to imagine changing something like that. Far to simple for her to understand. But when it comes to dark arts, surprisingly enough she would easily be able to cast them, of course, after a few tries.
MISC.: N/A
FIRST PERSON:
[ Having finally made her way out of the horrid class, she felt rather proud of herself, but she kept that to herself, wearing her usual bored expression. She lightly tapped it with a small sigh, staring blankly for a few moments going through a few things before clickling on the feed. The room with the potions was on use, she couldn't have made her way in without being caught so she let it go... For now. This was perfectly privated away from all the teachers, only to bite her lip and shoot looks around her worriedly. ]
Anyone want to do something actually useful right now? [ Since she could have almost sweared that she would have enjoyed pulling out her teeth more then having to listen to all of that, and having to wait for so long to get to do the charm, she got the gust of it. As it was, she was already easily aggigtated and this was something that bothered her. ]
Maybe... a duel? [ Now that is something she was perfectly fine with doing, and was actually looking forward too. At least in that way she can see if she has everything down, and maybe even try and use some spells she didn't get toaght yet? That could work beatifully, and it would let her take out some of that extra stress right now. Being in diffrent years then other people she cared about -read; two people- really made her very much annoyed. ]
Who's in?
THIRD PERSON:
She couldn't believe how boring this was, staring blankly at the students around her with a rather dull expression while she unharmounislly taps her pen againts the table everynow and then. "Need to get out," she mummbled to herself, eyes shifting suspisously to the door anytime the teacher looked away. The monotonus voice of the teacher was killing her inside, eying her wand with a rather pleeding look. If only she knew a spell to help her get out of here without having to deal with this. Or she could just sneak out? That could work, maybe distract everyone first. Being completely distracted at the moment, she didn't hear a single word anyone was saying, mumbbling to herself with a completely unreadable express. Her usual bored expression, with just a hint of mechivve in her eyes.
"Maybe..." she muttered again, running her hand through her hair again before nodding to herself, hopefully she can rememeber one. She could get out of here, she had to, she was dead set on this and somehow she will.... Maybe she had to take more care about her charms, but this lesson was to much. What do you mean removing points from her house? She didn't think of that, although even if she did she wouldn't have batted an eye at it for a second. She couldn't help wanting to go out at a day like this, never the less wanting to go and see people she cared for at the moment. That and she would rather be taking a ride on her broom, or even better? Doing some dark magic sounded nice just about now.
She wasn't all that good at charms, but maybe she could test her skills at a time like this? Could work. "Confundus," she said with a small breathy sigh as she pointed the wand at the teacher from behind one of the students, just so they wouldn't catch her doing it. Something she learned to do with a gun, but it seemed to work just fine. Once it actually worked and it showed easily, she quietly made her way out, evading any teacher and everyone she spotted in her way with far to much ease. "There, easy" was the last thing she mumbled, a hint of a smirk on her lips. If only she had something that made all of this sneaking away easier...
- Revisions ~ PERSONALITY
Date: 2012-04-12 12:17 pm (UTC)Belarus usually appears cold and emotionless, as well intimidating and cold, despite her appearance- except when it comes to expressing the single emotion known as rage She's said to have 'a bit rough around the edges', and with her frigid stares and the threat of the knife in her hand, it's easy for her coldness to weigh down on your shoulders. She is possessive mostly due to the fact that she was torn away from her siblings. She is protective, and she will stop at nothing to get what she wants, even going so far as to pursue whatever target she has relentlessly, no matter how many times she is beaten back. Be it in war or anything else, she's hard to keep down.
The events she experienced throughout her life made her the nation she is, many of which scarred her even to this day and formed unhealthy grudges. One could say she is mentally ill, unstable, crazy, not on the right-track-of-mind and many other similar explanations. Most of all her temper and very easily ticked off nature, although she most likely wasn't always like this, it could be born out of severe mistrust to the people around her. But most of all, she is usually taken aback when ever people try to get to close, seeing herself as either unworthy or seeing others as wanting to take advantage of her. The many unsophisticated reasons and opinions given by others to her person, albeit not completely untrue, are not justified nor good enough whys and wherefores that could truly grasp, the truth behind her unsympathetic self.
She herself understands (-yet cared very little of the others opinions) that her way of thinking may not always be tolerated, which is why she usually prefers taking the back seat in most gatherings. Others point fingers and label her methods to be violations of people's human rights and a simple display of insanity by her but then again, everyone is different with their individual viewpoint on how to deal with any affair that befalls their country. She clearly without a doubt disagrees to their claims. As she is quite clear on her own stability and methods as being just by her country's standards.
By other people's view one of her peculiar traits is the psychological complex towards Russia, Belarus self-introduced brother. Where she changes her behavior and attitude, becoming very hostile and unsociable to those that near him. She has a possessive hold over Russia's very existence; wishing to share him with no one else (-including her elder sister Ukraine) nor willing too. This could be coincidentally connected to their Union State, and the fact that he transits 40% of Belarus, raw materials and other things in between with him being her "oldest" yet closest ally. Both countries share a very close relationship.
Belarus, has a rather black and white view of the world. Belarus is unable to comprehend that people aren't entirely malleable, her bitterness at the world which surrounds her and the unfairness of it, even more scars left from the wars she has gone through. Although she seems to be something of a blank slate, she does tend to look more sour and disapproving than anything else. She's got a rather high and mighty persona, usually keeping to herself, and always standing back. She's untrusting of others and takes little interest in things unrelated to herself, or her siblings. She's by no means docile, being quick to intimidate others and finds a thrill at seeing others quivering before her. Stopping at nothing to get what she want ambitious and usually in-control. She has learned enough about having to take of things by yourself from past events, effect her in a far to many ways.
Out of all of the houses she could easily fit into Slytherin, she has a one-track-mind and is quick to come to her own conclusions, helping her in times of war to fight back and hold her own in the battle-field. Inducing her very strong stubbornness, usually not believing things until she has seen it herself or experienced it first hand. Very much a risk taker, but not foolishly brave. She would rather stand back and watch as things fall in place, calculating and calm. Sometimes her level of aggression can be seen as irrational, as she is quick to attempt to annihilate what proves to be a nuisance to her. --with questionable methods at times--. Belarus is shown to carry around a knife at times, most notably in the Meeting Of The World strip where she's holding it to a traumatized Latvia's back as Russia scares him, but it wouldn't be surprising if she were always armed, due to her tumultuous history, difficult upbringing and harsh weather.
She's very manipulative, stone hearted and calculating. Highly opportunistic she is willing to go through any lengths to get what she wants, even at the expense of others, either it be physically or emotionally. Belarus is always observing her surroundings from a healthy distance, although always on guard. Calm and stoic as she may appear on the outside, she is always observing, pondering, watching others with unnoticeable glances.
She does not seek attention from others (-nor does she desire it). Preferring social isolation and minimal contact with those of no beneficial interest, yet again the need to protect herself. She's reluctant to build close bonds with anyone that isn't of any use to her nation's benefit, distrusting of other nations intentions when they near her in search of companionship and friendship. Persistently believing their is a hidden dislikable purpose for their sudden interest. Her landlock isolation imposed by her previous bosses had have an effect on this view point.
[She lost the naivete's of believing others coming to help her nation with solely good intentions with Russia's, Prussia's and Germany's betrayals. Albeit Prussia's was not stated to be on good intentions, and it was just him taking part of her land in the past. Poland also kept some of her land, at this point in time, until Russia took it all from him. ]
If you're looking for sympathy or comfort. Belarus is the wrong person to consider. Not only would you possibly be getting at the end up being the victim of one of her her verbal assaults but also left feeling worse than before. She's critical, mostly born due to the nature of her people, wanting to get straight to the point rather than wasting their breaths on meanlings words. Can also be seen as unkind, unsympathetic, insensitive but she could be the opposite of all of these to an extent hidden deep within her many layers of broken beliefs about people. Also extremely strict, one thing she could never get rid of from the wars is the feeling of having everything in order as a must and being simply far to strict. As well as bleak and very direct, usually to a fault. She has a sharp tongue and is quite brutally honest any day of the week, preferring the more quiet and serious of her peers over the more obnoxious ones. She does not hold back on her opinion and is more then likely to tell you just what she thinks about you (-at most, the unattractive qualities you've got to offer), honesty is a must with her, leaning into being completely blunt most of the times.
Belarus also isn't really that experienced in romantic relationships... at all; this is apparent in the way that she constantly pesters her brother to marry her, so things involving romance can be a tad awkward for her since she doesn't have much experience in that area. Of course, her almost scarred mentality and very bit more unapproachable always kept people away from her, making her just a tad bit more unapproachable.
Anyone apart from her siblings, she tends to treat cruelly-- especially if they're caring to her. It's not that she intends to reject the offered kindness; rather, it seems as though a vicious response is merely her default reaction to everything and it might also due to her not being able to bring herself to trust easily. She's strong, both in persistence and in mannerism. Her lovely feminine features and soft appeal are greatly contrasted by her sharp words, furrowed brow and blunt honesty.
Perhaps, one could say it's a stroke of luck, that she's usually regarded and seen as a more quiet character. Her unsociable tendencies and averse attitude towards mixing with the crowd giving her an appeal of a rather apathetic person. Even when a frown is almost always present on her pretty face.
Uninterested and indifferent over her surroundings. Which would not be far from the truth. If one would not dare to cross her path, they would more then likely not even get a spared glance from the Belarusian.
She truly has a destructive personality when the subject at hand is Russia. In truth, if anyone could be hated by her, he maybe the first on her charts, quite close to her unforgiving grudge towards Germany and her annoyance towards America. As she constantly psychologically blames Russia for every bad incident in her life within the time period of WW1-WW2, which isn't far from the truth, as his people and boss did a lot of damage to her terrain. Even derailing after such events, and everything was being constructed, not that far from the horrible events of the past, Russia on his bosses orders, even broke deals with her, did as he and his boss pleased within her territory.(-Other enraging events occurred, Belarus is not overly happy nor pleased about them at all.)
This entire charade has only served a purpose in twisting her already disarrayed mind into further chaos. The feelings of undeniable hatred slowly eating at her very conscious, causing the instability within her to worsen as the hours go by. Further influenced by her ever growing wrath at how her curses do nothing to the Russian, her grudge marking no harm on his person or others.
She even loathes how she could barely speak her native tongue(-because he enforced Russian) in the past. She has at times, albeit indirectly shows her loathing towards him in subtle ways. One good example being at her stubbornness towards him was in the milk war, when both didn't agree entirely to each other's words in the creation of the Union State.
Belarus is a country that has not been able to escape her past, as even her name as Belarusian contains the name of their neighbor, Russia. The Belarusians (meaning "White Russians" literally) changed over time into a distinct ethnicity and gained an individual language, culture, and history, but they have not yet become an independent unit acting on their own behalf for their own benefit. Although they have tried, usually stopping in one way or another.
Historically, the Belarusians were rural farmers and herders who never truly unified or sought independence, meaning they fell under foreign rule for much of their existence and rarely ever fought to alter this. When the people finally began a push for self-definition, they were taken over by the Soviets, who brutally destroyed these ideas and their uniqueness unless it benefited the Soviet government, causing her to fall back on such ideas for a long time. In this environment, the government actually encouraged the people to view themselves as "Belarussian," while defining this only as the government saw fit.
Today Belarus can usually be found identifying herself as "Belarussian," although sometimes with a small wince with it, but few people know what exactly that means as her history has meddled with her identity quite drastically. Although due to this, it is often said that she is bipolar. Having been primarily a rural country under foreign rule, Belarus has, more often than not, been dominated by outside influence while unique traits were condemned or demolished. Since the fall of the Soviet Union Belarus has been trying to define her identity and, while there's no consensus, it seems most people see being Belarusian as also being Christian Orthodox and ethnic Belarusian. However, she prefers the Russian language to Belarusian so not even the language can truly be included as an integral aspect of who she is, usually.
She's pretty ambitious, a very strong leader, if not completely intimidating. Her cold, unreadable expression and blank mannerisms going hand in hand with her complete roughness in everything she does, not to mention her underhanded touch of almost child-like cruelty can have her suited for Slytherin.
Revision - Power & Ability
Date: 2012-04-12 12:21 pm (UTC)She has a rather cracked mentality, thought that something very small as hearing the wrong words could get a nasty look from her, due to her untrusting nature from the many betrayals from war she has gone through, it's not all that simple. She is very good at staying calm even in the most hectic of times, rather then being scared she would quietly plan her moves ahead of time or, if needed, attack on the spot. Using her many gained experiences in war to defend herself and shape her fighting skills with both her guns and blades of all sorts. She is hard to keep down since even if she was torn away from her weapons she is still physically strong. Being able to easily break fingers in a heart beat should show at least some of that strength. As well as training herself harshly in case of any attacks has made it's way into her daily schedule.
Although while her untrusting nature and bleak look at the world keeps her safe at most times, it isolates her completely from people she doesn't trust perfectly unless she was forced to be with them for what ever reason. Isolation means loneliness, and she shows that loneliness by clinging onto her siblings for dear life, not wanting to have other people get in her way, since, in her mind, everyone could have some dark secrets hidden away from her. Usually seen either on guard when around others, or looking perfect disgruntled. That has some good points, that an attack from anyone won't surprise as easily as it would some, reacting quickly with an attack just as worse or one more critical and to the point of death if it was that bad.
As stated, she is talented with blades, knowing how to use both short daggers or, if needed, long swords. Usually have at least three on her person, with of course a Nagant M1895 -double action since one/first action guns are hell to deal with- usually hidden by way of it being holstered to her leg, keeping it close to her from the soviet era, not exactly fondly keeping it as a remembrance more of due to it aiding her many times in the past. Being a gun that is known for its extreme sturdiness and ability to withstand abuse, since she has a tendency to use it to whip rather then shoot. As well as some feeling of disgust while using it, due to Germany having used it in the past at the time of the Nazi's that is.
She would also be rather well at healing spells, having dealt with medical urgency many times in the past as well as having "The Belarusian Red Cross Society", having more then enough knowledge about how to deal with different kinds of injuries.
Revisions - Wand
Date: 2012-04-12 12:22 pm (UTC)Core would be made out of Dragon heartstring, Dragon wands tend to learn more quickly than other types as she does, quickly picking up on important details as well as quickly making up her mind when in fights. Easily taking in her surroundings and what she could use them in. As well as as these wands known for always bonding strongly with the current owner, suits her rather well since she doesn't easily open up but the moment she feels someone is that close she never lets go. The dragon wand tends to be easiest to turn to the Dark Arts, as she could with her nature and love of defense and need to protect herself. As well as her temperamental and rather harsh mentality and love for power to be able to protect herself could make her lean to the dark arts more.
As for the wood it would be Pine. Pine wands always chooses an independent people, which is, depending on herself and fighting for her own independence for a very long time. Since this kind of wood only chooses individual people that are perceived as a loners, that is very fits her, with her very stand-offish personality. As well as very complicated and hard to understand from the first glance. 8" for the length, it would be much easier for her since she's so used to daggers and knives after all.
The wand itself will be brittle, matching her very blunt and cruel persona as well as stiff, since she can't get used to new situations very easily.
